We believe that giving back to the local community and supporting industry initiatives are the right thing to do. Below are some of the contributions our Company and Co-workers make.
Plant A Row-Grow A Row
Known as "Plant a Row for the Hungry" in the U.S., Plant a Row-Grow a Row builds on the long-standing tradition of gardeners loving to share their harvest with others. It is a people-helping-people program to assist in feeding the hungry in their own communities. It's a reminder to "Plant A Row" for your local food bank.
Youth Organized Sports
Rittenhouse has been supporting youth baseball and hockey since the local Jordan Lions park opened in the 1960s. More than one generation of youth has worn the "Rittenhouse Whirlwinds" team jersey.
More recently, youth soccer and curling have been added to the list as the popularity of these sports has grown. For the past few years, Rittenhouse employees Wendy and Jamie have spent Sunday afternoons teaching the basics of curling.
Youth participation in team sports help a child grow socially, physically, and personally to keep a community strong.
Lincoln Communities in Bloom & St. Catharines Trillium Awards
Rittenhouse is a long time major sponsor of both of these initiatives - combining the promotion of our community and our industry. Both Lincoln Communities in Bloom and the St. Catharines Trillium Awards focus on the promotion of green spaces in community settings, honoring contributions in horticulture.
We support several community gardens located within the Niagara Region by donating tools as well as direct funding.
The Niagara Community Foundation
The Niagara Community Foundation is a charitable public foundation, one of the many worldwide community foundations dedicated to improving the quality of life in our local communities through endowment funds, providing grants and enabling philanthropic partnerships. MK Rittenhouse family fund honors Moses Rittenhouse, the founder of M.K. Rittenhouse and Sons and a Niagara Hall-of-Fame entrepreneur. Grants from this fund are provided where most needed in West Niagara.
Canada Blooms is a yearly international flower and garden festival held in Toronto. Proceeds from Canada Blooms are used to support community projects that promote horticulture and nurture and enhance our landscapes. Rittenhouse has provided equipment for this annual event. Landscape Ontario, a co-sponsor of Canada Blooms, awarded Rittenhouse Supplier of the Year in 2008 for our continued involvement with this and other Landscape Ontario projects.
